Parenting WorkshopFrequently Asked Questions for Bringing Baby HomeQ: Can we attend the workshop if we are not married?A: Yes!! Many couples attend who are not married. We encourage unmarried, cohabitating or same sex couples to participate in the workshop.
Q. We already have a child. Is this workshop only for new parents?A: The workshop is just as relevant to parents of second or additional children. John Gottman’s research indicates that without this workshop, 67% of couples express a decrease in relationship satisfaction one year after the birth of the first child and that for most couples that satisfaction continues to decline with subsequent children.
Q: Can I come to the workshop alone?A: The workshop is intended for couples
and we find that the time dedicated to many of the skills and relationship
exercises is most valuable when two people are present. If your
partner is unable to attend and you have a support person who would like
to attend with you please contact your workshop leader.
Q: Can I bring my children to the workshop?A: An infant under six month may attend
and plans for alternative child care should be discussed with your instructor.
Lactating mothers will be accommodated.
Q: Do we have to attend the whole workshop or just the parts that address issues we are currently experiencing?A: It is recommended that each couple attend the workshop in its entirety. The information provided and the skills that are taught are intended to build upon one another. Most couples report that attending the whole workshop is extremely valuable.
Q. I want to take this workshop but I can’t afford it. Are scholarships available?A: Workshop price is dependent upon how much the space rental for each workshop location costs. Bringing Baby Home is a community intervention committed to keeping the program affordable for all couples. Scholarships are available for the workshop. Please contact your workshop facilitator to see if you qualify.
